Project overview
Flat roof replacement at a specialist school for pupils with physical disabilities, procured through a local authority framework. The works covered a complete strip and renewal of the main teaching block roof, thermal upgrade, and the installation of a new mansafe fall arrest system for future maintenance access.
The challenge
The school supports pupils with complex physical and medical needs, several of whom are sensitive to noise and changes in routine. Vibration and noise had to be tightly controlled during term time. Vehicle movements were constrained by accessible transport arriving and departing throughout the day, and no plant could obstruct the drop-off route at any point.
Our solution
Absolute Waterproofing agreed a daily working window with the school leadership team, restricting all noisy operations to defined periods communicated to staff in advance. A mechanically fastened single ply system was selected for its low-noise installation, and all material movement was scheduled outside pupil arrival and departure times. A dedicated banksman managed every vehicle movement on site.
The result
Completed on programme with no disruption to the school day and no complaints recorded. The new mansafe system gives the authority compliant maintenance access for the life of the roof. Absolute Waterproofing remains an approved contractor on the framework and has since delivered two further school projects for the same authority.
