Phased refurbishment of multiple flat roof areas across a live city-centre campus, carried out for the university estates team under a framework arrangement. The scope covered stripping and renewing failed felt roofs, upgrading insulation, forming new falls to eliminate standing water, and renewing all associated rainwater outlets, upstands and perimeter details.

Every roof area sat directly above teaching space, laboratories or student accommodation in continuous use. Noise-generating operations were restricted during examination periods, and several roofs were only reachable across occupied pedestrian routes. Asbestos-containing materials were identified within two of the existing build-ups, requiring licensed removal to be integrated into the programme without extending it.

Absolute Waterproofing worked to a phased programme agreed directly with the estates team, taking the highest-risk roofs during vacation periods and the lower-risk areas in term time. Licensed asbestos removal was coordinated as a discrete early package. Tapered insulation was designed and installed to create positive falls to new outlets, and a torch-free application method was specified throughout to remove hot works from a live campus environment.

All eighteen roof areas were handed over within the agreed academic windows and to the full satisfaction of the estates team. The torch-free specification eliminated hot work permits entirely across the project. Absolute Waterproofing has since been retained for ongoing planned maintenance and annual roof inspections across the wider estate.
