Project overview
Overlay refurbishment of a failing flat roof across an operational secondary academy, delivered within a single summer holiday window. A cold applied liquid waterproofing system was specified to allow the existing covering to be retained, avoiding the cost, disruption and waste associated with a full strip and replacement.
The challenge
The academy required every roof area to be complete and signed off before the start of the autumn term, giving a fixed and immovable nine-week programme. Extensive rooflights, plant plinths and complex upstand detailing across the roof made a sheet system impractical. Safeguarding requirements meant all operatives needed enhanced clearance and a segregated site compound.
Our solution
The existing surface was cleaned, tested for adhesion and locally repaired, then overlaid with a fully reinforced cold applied liquid system dressed seamlessly into every penetration and upstand. Working cold removed hot works from a school site entirely. Absolute Waterproofing ran two crews in parallel across separate roof zones, with all operatives DBS cleared and inducted under the academy safeguarding policy.
The result
Handed over eleven days ahead of the start of term, with a 20-year manufacturer guarantee in place. Retaining the existing build-up diverted an estimated 34 tonnes of material from landfill and reduced the programme by an estimated six weeks against a full replacement.
