Cold applied liquid waterproofing coating a complex city centre roof around existing plant
03Waterproofing system

Liquid Applied Waterproofing

Liquid applied waterproofing is a cold, seamless membrane rolled or spray applied over the roof and reinforced with a fleece. Because it has no laps and dresses around any shape, it suits roofs congested with plant, rooflights and upstands, and it can overlay a sound existing roof.

Application
Cold applied, no hot works
Resin types
PMMA and polyurethane
Typical guarantee
15 to 25 years
Cure time
PMMA trafficable in around one hour

About Liquid Applied Waterproofing

The single biggest advantage of liquid is that it is monolithic. There are no seams to fail, and it forms a continuous membrane around the details that cause most flat roof failures. On a roof crowded with plant plinths, rooflights and pipe penetrations it is often the only sensible answer.

It is applied cold. No flame, no hot bitumen, no odour of any consequence and no hot work permits. On a school, hospital or trading retail unit that removes the largest single risk from the works and usually removes the need to decant occupants.

Liquid also lends itself to overlay. Where the existing membrane is sound and the insulation is dry, we can clean, test, locally repair and overlay rather than strip. That reduces cost, cuts programme and diverts a substantial tonnage of material from landfill.

Best suited to

  • Roofs congested with plant and penetrations
  • Overlay refurbishment of a sound existing roof
  • Occupied schools, hospitals and retail units
  • Balconies, walkways and gutter linings

Common questions

Liquid Applied, answered

Can you overlay our existing roof rather than replace it?

Often yes. We core the roof and moisture test the insulation first. If the existing build-up is dry and the deck is sound, an overlay gives you a fully guaranteed roof at a fraction of the cost and programme of a strip and replace.

Can it be applied during winter?

PMMA resins cure at low temperatures and can be applied through most of the year, subject to substrate temperature and dew point. We monitor conditions daily and will stop rather than apply outside the manufacturer window.
